8 Genius Tips for Rainy Days at Disneyland
Every once in a while it does rain at Disneyland Resort. Gasp! I know! But that's no reason to cancel your plans to visit the resort. Visiting Disneyland Resort on a rainy day offers new opportunities and perspectives you might otherwise miss on a typical sunny day.
Be prepared with the right gear.
To enjoy rainy days at Disneyland you need the right rainy day gear. Ponchos, umbrellas, waterproof bags and beach totes are perfect for keeping dry in the rain, but don't worry if you the rain comes after you're already at the park. Ponchos and umbrellas are available for purchase at merchandise locations throughout the theme parks.
We found the cute little Mickey beach tote below at Seaside Souvenirs, in the Paradise Pier shopping area behind Mickey's Fun Wheel.
Visit Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park's indoor attractions.
At Disneyland, go inside Star Wars Launch Bay where you have the opportunity to meet some of your favorite Star Wars heroes and villains including Kylo Ren and Chewbacca. You can also check out film props and costumes from a galaxy far, far away, and watch a behind the scenes video at Star Wars Launch Bay Theater to learn more about the new generation of filmmakers who are crafting the future of the Star Wars saga.
Upstairs you'll find Super Hero HQ, including the Stark Industries exhibit of Iron Man, featuring life-size versions of the various suits worn by Iron Man actor Robert Downey Jr. in Iron Man 3.
At the V.A.U.L.T. you'll be greeted by members of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., home to displays for Captain America and Ant-Man. Superheroes big and small will marvel (see what I did there) in the Thor meet and greet, along with Treasures of Asgard.
The Game Center features Marvel characters in Disney Infinity on Xbox One. There's also a Marvel merchandise location where Marvel merchandise is offered almost exclusively from the Marvel cinematic universe, although guests may note other Marvel characters in the store, notably Spider-Man.
Take a trip back to the Golden Age of Cinema and catch a movie at Disneyland's Main Street Cinema. Here, you'll rediscover classic films at this nostalgic movie theater. It's been “standing room only” at this 6-screen picture palace since opening day in 1955.
Additional attractions to do during rainy days at Disneyland include:

Disney California Adventure Park
Spend a drawing session with a Disney animator who will teach you how to draw a Disney character at the Disney Animation Academy in Disney California Adventure Park. Best of all, you get to take your artwork home after the session.
Get those feet moving and enjoy a fun-filled show gear towards the preschoolers at Disney Junior Live on Stage! Kids can get up and dance, clap their hands, and sing along with their favorite characters from Doc McStuffins, Sophia the First, and Jake and the Never Land Pirates.

Hunt for Hidden Mickeys
Embark on a resort-wide scavenger hunt for hidden Mickey's in unexpected locations throughout the resort. What is a hidden Mickey you ask? Simply an artistic representation of Mickey that was intentionally placed amid the design of the resort. Many times, hidden Mickeys are the familiar three-circle shape of his ears.
To help get you started on your hunt we're sharing one of our favorite hidden Mickeys on Mater below, and you can check out the book “The Hidden Mickeys of Disneyland” by Bill Scollon for more tips on finding hidden Mickey's throughout the park.
Enjoy a Warm, Rainy Day Meal
Escape the rain and enjoy a cup of hot cocoa or a cup of coffee at the Market House to stay warm at Disneyland park. The Royal Street Veranda Cafe in New Orleans is famous for their gumbo, and the clam chowder in a bread bowl is to die for.
For a little more fun and excitement, make a reservation for a character meal at Ariel's Grotto or Goofy's Kitchen.
Shop till you drop!
One of my favorite rainy day activities to do at Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park is to shop! Whether you're looking for a new pair of ears, Disney Pins to collect and trade, Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration merchandise, or any of the popular dated 2016 collections, Disneyland Resort offers a wide variety of shopping opportunities for guests of all ages.
Tip: Shop on Main Street in Disneyland Park to escape the rain. Many of the stores have pass-throughs to get from one store to the next.
Capture those rainy day opportunities.
Don't let a little rain keep you from capturing your favorite iconic Disneyland Resort landmarks. Instead, take advantage of the rain and the amazing backdrop of clouds as you try a new perspective with your park photography. For inspiration, check out these rainy days at Disneyland photos from Disneyland Resort Chief Photographer Paul Hiffmeyer.
Ride your favorite attractions … again and again
Rainy days at Disneyland can mean more opportunities to ride your favorite attractions as the park is less crowded and lines are shorter! So pack up your gear and enjoy a fun-filled day, rain or shine, at Disneyland Resort.
