The one subjects I dreaded teaching the most when I began homeschooling our four children were Language, Grammar, and Reading. I'm not much of a reader – not because I don't like the subject, but simply because I can't ever seem to find the time to read. Since I never excelled in these subjects at school, I was worried I wouldn't be the best teacher for our children. Thankfully, though, I have found some amazing tools to help our children get ready to read and thrive in the subject of reading.
One of our favorite reading tools in our homeschool classroom is Ready-to-Read, the early reader line from Simon & Schuster. These books are broken down into non-specific grade levels allowing children to learn at their pace without the pressures of being bound to a specific grade level. Plus, with exciting non-fiction options, popular beloved characters, and fan favorites, the Ready-to-Read books are the perfect choice for hesitant and reluctant young readers like our little Gracie.
Get Ready-to-Read and Be A Reading Star
Gracie is our youngest reader. While she's been reading for two years now, she's definitely my reader who lacks confidence. But when she saw that the books we received from our friends at Simon & Schuster included one of her favorite stories from PJ Masks, Gracie couldn't wait to start reading.
For her, PJ Masks has been a tried and true show she has loved for years. This fun story of Gekko Saves the City, based on the episode ‘Lionel-saurus', is one of her favorite adventures. Plus, as an added bonus for her, there are more than 35 PJ Masks and Reading Star stickers for her in the back of the book to track her progress as she grasps new reading concepts.
She has declared the Level One Ready-to-Read PJ Masks book as her favorite, and she can't wait to collect all five stories available.
What I love most about this Level One reader is that it not only features easy sight words as well as words to sound out, it has a shorter length perfect for her age to keep her engaged with an imaginative story, simple plot, and familiar theme, giving her the confidence she needs to become a superstar reader.
Mitch is our megastar reader and is full of curiosity. His love for reading frequently takes him on adventures to meet incredible people of past and present as he learns about the lives of Lin-Manuel Miranda, Susan B. Anthony, Amelia Earhart, and Clara Barton.
This Level Three book has a longer, more complex story plot with advance character development, challenging vocabulary words, and more difficult sentence structures. Much like our homeschool books, this reader comes with bonus content including historical facts, topic-based fun facts and figures, and a short question and answer segment at the end to help measure his comprehension of the story.
As your reader perfects this skill, they'll be ready to move on to the vast selection of In The Middle Books chapter books from Simon & Schuster, fantastic books for kids in the in-beTWEEN stage.
Ready-to-Read has something for everyone in an easy format with fun stories kids will love. We can't recommend these books enough if you have an early reader as we do. Best of all, these small books are perfect for supplementing your child's reading comprehension curriculum even when you're on the go.
