Studies show kids learn best through play, which is why we are so excited to integrate Dash STEM learning into our homeschool curriculum. With this new kids tech product and learning apps, keeping our kids engaged couldn’t be easier creating a fun and educational experience we can enjoy together.
Plus, with the five free apps available through Apple or Google Play that come with Dash (and more on the way), we can bring robotics into the hands of our children even though we're not experienced in computer programming.
Integrating Dash STEM Learning into Homeschool Curriculums
Meet Dash! (Pictured below with Dot.) Dash is a real robot, charged and ready to play out of the box.
Straight from the box Dash was an instant hit with our kids, especially our kindergartener and preschooler ages six and four respectively, as he danced and sang following their voices around the room. Connecting Dash to any one of the Wonder Workshop apps was effortless with 3 easy steps: turn on Dash, open the app on your phone or tablet, and select the robot you wish to connect. It really is that easy.
The first app we tried with Dash was the Go app. Designed to introduce you to Dash and his capabilities, the Go app is perfect for children of all ages.
With the Go app, your children can teach Dash how to play, act out storybook characters, and even deliver personalized messages recorded by you. Getting started is easy with Go!
The Wonder app allows unstructured play with hundreds of in-app challenges making robotics a delightful experience for children ages 8 and up. Kids can design behavior and interactions with Dash as they're introduced to the advance world of robotics, engineering, and technology.
Kids can take coding to the next level with the Blockly app as they unleash their creativity and make their own programs for Dash, turning their silliest ideas into reality.
For our first task, we challenged our oldest kids to create a sequence using the Blockly app and their own code to teach Dash to set off a chain reaction.
What resulted from the challenge was much more than we ever could have expected. In addition to completing their first successful coding of a robot, our first STEM challenge built the foundation for hands-on, critical thinking learning as our kids discovered how to solve real-world problems in a team environment.
Some additional homeschool STEM activities we'll be doing with Dash include:
- Teach Dash to navigate a maze.
- Teach Dash how to draw a picture.
- Create a Dash puppet show.
Check out our video below to see Dash in action, and to find out if we successfully completed our first coding task. You can also explore more with the Path app as you draw a path to Dash's next adventure, and the Xylo app where you compose your own musical masterpiece.
