Disney's Moana is an exceedingly joyful oceanic musical, filled with a vibrantly rendered animation and memorable music your entire family will love. Featuring music from ‘Hamilton' sensation Lin-Manuel Miranda, Moana will warm your heart and leave a smile on your face, and is the must-see family comedy this holiday weekend.
Disney's Moana is now playing in theaters everywhere!
Moana opens with the chilling tale of Maui, a demigod from Polynesian mythology who stole the heart of island goddess Te Fiti, cursing Moana's village on the island of Motunui. Tala, Moana's grandmother, warns that if Te Fiti's heart isn't returned, that Te Fiti will cause destruction across all of the Pacific islands.
Moana, who, even as a toddler, is intrigued by Tala's story and finds herself called to the ocean. In one of the most beautiful sequences of the film, we get our first look at the ocean as an animated character as it plays with Moana and gives her the heart of Te Fiti, which is quickly lost when it's dropped back into the ocean.
As Moana grows from toddler to teenager, her father, Chief Tui, and her mother, Sina, encourage Moana to become the future chief of the people of Motunui, but she can't ignore the ocean which still calls her. Tala, who sees the ocean has chosen Moana, takes her to a secret cave where the spirits of her ancestors reveal their true history, they were voyagers. On Tala's word and encouragement, and against her father's wishes, Moana sets out to find Maui, return the heart of Te Fiti, and save her people and the islands across the Pacific.
Along her voyage, Moana must find the strength and confidence to convince Maui she is more than a princess, and enlist his help in restoring Te Fiti's heart. As Maui is forced by the ocean to help Moana on her quest, they find themselves in the fights of their lives as they battle the evil coconut race of Kakamora, vie to retrieve Maui's magical fishhook from the giant coconut crab, Tomatoa, who lives in the realm of monsters known as Lalotai, and defeat Te Ka, the angry lava monster guarding Te Fiti.
Disney's Moana is the perfect film for the entire family this holiday weekend. From the beautifully animated scenes from the Pacific Islands to the authentic Polynesian music, a crazy stowaway chicken named HeiHei, and positive messages of strength, courage, perseverance, and self-discovery, Moana is an inspiring film for moviegoers of all ages.
