As a homeschool parent, I try to encourage open discussions within our family, especially when it comes to current events. After all, almost any circumstance can provide the information needed to teach children important life lessons. The eruption of the Kilauea volcano is not only an ongoing geology lesson, but it's also a lesson in geography as Hawaii's Big Island is changing shape due to the lava flow. While the Laurel and Yanny debate provided opportunities to teach children lessons on sound perception. But one of my favorite ways to spark up a discussion in our home classroom is with Mardi Gras conversation napkins. Come to see how we wipe away the boredom and bring fun back to our mealtime with these fun new conversation starters.
Spark Up A Discussion with Mardi Gras Conversation Napkins
Igniting spontaneous and unexpected conversations is a cinch with the super-cool illustrated prints featured on Mardi Gras napkins. During breakfast time, questions like, ‘If you owned a food truck, what would be today's special?' and ‘What song best describes you today?' not only gets our kids chatting at the table, it also allows their minds to open to the possibilities that the day will bring and lets us in on some of their children's favorite things.
Mitch, who is 7 years old and going into second grade, decided his food truck would serve everything from pretzels to pizza, and lots of fruits like apples, bananas, and grapes. While Gracie, our 5-year-old daughter who will be in first grade next year, wants a food truck that serves nothing but unicorn ice cream, one of her favorite treats.
And if you ask Gracie what song best describes her for the day, she will loudly exclaim, ‘One Foot', which echoes the determination she has in life to overcome any obstacle.
Our 12-year-old twin boys, Kevin and Lewis, share the same thoughts about the future of the world. When asked to, ‘Fast forward 100 years. What's the world like?' they both proclaimed how the earth will be run by robots, dinosaurs will return, and we'll all be making 10 million dollars a year. Dream on boys. Dream on.
While these are a few of our favorite conversation starters to kick off the day, conversation napkins like, ‘What's the most amazing idea you had today?' and ‘Describe today's most picture-worthy moment.' make the perfect lunch box essentials for back to school to brighten your loved one's day.
